Police have arrested at least three youth following politically-instigated chaos that erupted on Saturday night in Siaya town and which left several people nursing injuries and properties damaged.
The ugly physical confrontation broke out when two factions of youth supporting different candidates for the area's parliamentary seat in 2022 came face-to-face.
The two factions, Citizen TV reported, were at odds on who between Alego Usonga Member of Parliament, Samuel Atandi, and renowned tycoon, Martin Otieno, had the people's interests at heart.
All hell broke loose when one of Otieno's die hard fans lost his temper amid the fiery exchange and descended on another youth with kicks and blows, prompting the rest of the youth to also take their gloves off.
Things appeared to get out of hand when one of the quarreling factions allegedly set a blaze a hotel believed to be owned by one of their opponents.
By the time the dust settled, properties of undisclosed value had been destroyed and several people badly hurt.
The suspects believed to had instigated the chaos were arrested on Sunday according to Siaya county police commander, Ambrose Mwakawa.
The accused are expected to appear in court on Monday, January 28.
